Crowns and Bridges

Most people say the first thing they notice is a beautiful smile. A confident smile can help you attract a partner, advance your career, and just make you feel better about yourself. Dr. Chad Fine can help you gain a winning smile with the use of Crowns and Bridges.

Crowns are very effective, common restorative dental procedures. Crowns are sometimes necessary to restore teeth that have a large filling or other problems. Dental crowns are strong, yet aesthetically pleasing and are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. Dr. Fine will ensure that your crown is made of only the highest quality material, using the latest techniques so you will be able to smile with confidence!

Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth, with a prosthetic or “false” tooth. The false tooth is fixed between two crowns, which fit over the real teeth on either side of the gap – thus forming a “bridge.” We perfectly color match the crowns and false tooth on the bridge, to your natural teeth, creating a very esthetic and natural looking restoration. A more popular option as an alternative to a bridge is a dental implant.

Sometimes if teeth cannot be saved, or restored by other procedures, you may need to be fitted for full or partial dentures. Relax, because today’s dentures are not your grandmother’s “false teeth”. When you leave our office with your “cosmetic dentures” you will have a smile that can rival the look and luster of veneers, crowns or other restorative procedures.

Our team here at Dentistry at Westland, creates full or partial dentures that look natural and fit securely. With dentures custom-crafted specifically for your needs, you will smile more comfortably, speak more clearly, and enjoy all of your favorite foods once again.

Full Mouth Restoration

You may have seen complete “smile makeovers” performed on TV shows like “The Swan”. Dr. Fine was doing these types of Full Mouth Restorations long before they became popular on reality TV.

Do you dread family pictures? Are you constantly finding ways to avoid smiling, even at yourself in the mirror? Do you smile only with your lips together? Then you may be a candidate for a complete smile makeover.

If you are like many adults, the years have taken their toll on your teeth. Cracks, chips, and other problems are not uncommon. Also, you may find yourself with a mouthful of dental work that was done in the years before the availability of the natural looking restorations that Dr. Fine has for you today. You may have a mouth that is a “Mixed Bag” of silver amalgam fillings and other metal or not so natural looking restorations, all of which can be corrected for you with a Full Mouth Restoration.

A Full Mouth Restoration will result in a smile you can be proud of, and will make you look younger and more vital, but it is not done strictly for cosmetic reasons. A full mouth restoration requires a dentist that is skilled in many areas, and also understands and listens to your unique needs.

Implant Placement and Restoration

Are you tired of putting your hand over your mouth when you smile, laugh, or speak? If you have one or more missing teeth, dental implants are a great way to restore your beautiful smile. At Dentistry at Westland, Dr. Fine is proficient in the very latest techniques of implantology. A dental implant is basically an artificial tooth. Like every restorative dental procedure we do here, your dental implants will be created to look natural and be indistinguishable from your real teeth, while being put in place as comfortably as possible. Dr. Fine can also use dental implants to successfully lock down full and partial dentures, which can prevent sore spots, minimize food getting caught between dentures and your gums, inhibit bone loss, and reduce your need for denture powders and adhesives. Can you imagine having dentures that fit in your mouth so securely, that you will need both hands to remove them? Dental implants not only restore and enhance your smile, they will improve your quality of life by allowing you to chew better and even speak more clearly. Dental implants are our procedure of choice for patients with missing, or severely damaged teeth due to disease or injury. If you would like to look younger and healthier, speak clearer, and enjoy eating all of your favorite foods again – then dental implants may be right for you!

Intravenous Sedation or Oral Sedation

Oral Sedation or IV sedation is a great option for anyone who has anxiety associated with dentistry.  Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures.  Patients who are apprehensive about receiving dental treatment usually avoid going to the dentist for their regular examinations or dental treatment.  Ultimately, this delay in treatment can lead to advanced disease and the need for more extensive treatment.  We would like to eliminate your fears and anxiety and discuss why sedation dentistry at Dentistry at Westland may be an ideal option for you.

If you think braces are just for kids, think again – more and more adults are seeing their dentist for orthodontic procedures, and Dentistry at Westland specializes in the latest techniques that can eliminate embarrassing wires. You may not have been born with a perfectly straight smile, and there are many factors that can lead to misaligned teeth. However there is one thing that all crooked teeth have in common – they can be corrected and made to look beautiful again, and with advances such as Invisalign, no one will even know you are wearing braces! Instead of the silver wires you may be familiar with, Invisalign uses clear “aligners” that fit snuggly over your teeth, which are practically invisible.

If clear and removable braces sound perfect to you, you could be on your way to a straight smile!

Oral Surgery

It is always desirable to preserve your teeth whenever possible, but there are times when you may have to have teeth extracted for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease, or you may have broken or cracked a tooth in a way that it cannot be repaired. Some teeth especially wisdom teeth, need to be removed because they are poorly positioned in the mouth, or have become impacted.

Preventive Sealants

Dentistry at Westland is a full service dental practice offering the state- of-the- art professional dentistry for the entire family. As a parent you know how important it is to get your kids to brush their teeth. You also know just how difficult this can be.

Dental sealants are a safe and effective way to reduce cavities among school-aged children, by preventing cavity-causing bacteria from getting into the pits and fissures that exist on the chewing surfaces of all teeth. Basically, dental sealants are a plastic coating placed over teeth that act as a barrier against tooth decay. Sealants significantly reduce your child’s risk of developing cavities, and have also been shown in some cases, to actually stop tooth decay that has already begun.

Dental sealants should not be considered a substitute for teaching your child good oral hygiene from an early age, but they can be an additional layer of defense in the battle against tooth decay.

Periodontal Therapy

Periodontic literally means “around the tooth.” Periodontal Therapy is designed to keep the tissue around your tooth – your gums – healthy and strong. You may be suffering from gum disease if your gums appear puffy or bleed.

You probably have heard gum disease referred to as gingivitis, or inflammation of the gums. Left untreated, gum disease is the number one contributor to tooth loss and other oral health problems. Gum disease begins when the bacteria in plaque – that sticky substance that forms on and around your teeth - is allowed to get below the surface of your gums causing them to become swollen and inflamed.

Porcelain Veneers

Over the years your smile can take quite a beating with your teeth developing a multitude of problems such as stains, chips, or cracks. Fortunately, we have a variety of methods available to make up for years of abuse, and restore your elegant smile. One such technique is the use of porcelain veneers.

Porcelain veneers are also known as porcelain laminates, and can be used to correct a variety of dental problems. Often, Dr. Fine can use veneers to close spaces in teeth that traditionally required more extensive orthodontic procedures, such as braces. Porcelain veneers are made from ultra-thin, completely non-metal materials. They are actually translucent, which means they let light pass through them in much the same way as the surface enamel of your real teeth. Veneers, therefore, give a restored tooth a very real and natural luster. Veneers will not stain or discolor like natural teeth can. Veneers are very strong, yet they are flexible and will expand and contract with the tooth they are bonded to, preventing cracks and tooth loss.

Dr. Fine and his team are excited to be able to offer you a particular type of porcelain veneer you may have heard of called Lumineers. Lumineers are ultra-thin and ultra translucent making them as thin as contact lenses, giving you a beautiful smile!

Root Canal Therapy

If you are experiencing the pain and discomfort of an infected tooth, root canal therapy is a way to avoid an extraction, and save your tooth. Root canal therapy is a very common dental procedure, and in most cases is actually no more uncomfortable than having your cavities filled. The purpose of a root canal is to stem the tide of bacteria that has progressed into the roots of your tooth causing an infection. Left untreated your infection will worsen, and can lead to an abscess, and ultimately the loss of that tooth.

Teeth Whitening

Like most people, you started out with a set of perfectly sparkling white teeth. The enamel that covers your teeth is what gives them their original white luster. Over time, enamel wears down, and allows more of the core material of teeth called dentin, to show through. You should not confuse professional dental tooth whitening with any kind of over-the- counter or home tooth-whitening product. In addition to giving you the benefit of a cleaner looking and more attractive smile, whiter teeth can also enhance your self-confidence and self esteem.

Dr. Fine will evaluate your teeth and develop the most comprehensive and effective tooth whitening program possible for your unique needs. Your individualized, successful, dental tooth whitening program may include office visits, professional home whitening kits – or any combination thereof.

Tooth-colored (white) Fillings

Most likely you have had a filling, after all a filling is one of the most common restorations performed on damaged teeth, or when a tooth is partially decayed or chipped. So while you are familiar with what a filling is, you can forget about what you think they have to look like.

Dr. Fine only uses tooth colored, or “white” fillings. You will love these metal-free fillings and be thrilled with their long-lasting, yet natural appearance as opposed to the silver fillings that blacken and discolor your teeth.

Tooth-colored fillings allow for more conservative preparations where less tooth structure is removed.

Some other metal free techniques that might be used to restore your healthy natural looking smile include bonding with direct tooth-colored composite resins. If the area of decay or breakdown is too large or severe, then a porcelain, or resin inlay, or an onlay will be made that perfectly matches and is bonded in place making your tooth whole, strong and natural looking once again.

Digital x-rays

We all know how important a beautiful smile is on the outside. But, to ensure that striking smile, Dr. Chad Fine is also concerned about what is on the inside. The best way to get at the root of any dental issue requires the use of x-rays. Dentistry at Westland only uses digital x-rays. Digital x-rays are very safe and use much less radiation than traditional film x-rays and transfer the images of your teeth and mouth directly to a computer.

Digital x-rays are highly detailed and can show where you have cavities, bone loss, teeth that have not broken the surface, and other conditions you cannot see with the naked eye.

Dr. Chad Fine will use Digital x-rays upon your first visit to evaluate your mouth; he will than take the time to go over the x-rays with you on the computer, and discuss a treatment plan customized just for you.

Located in view of breath-taking Black Mountain, Dr. Fine is well aware of how special, and yet fragile our environment can be. Digital x-rays are an earth – friendly “green” technology since they eliminate the need for film that ends up in land fills.
