It is always desirable to preserve your teeth whenever possible, but there are times when you may have to have teeth extracted for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease, or you may have broken or cracked a tooth in a way that it cannot be repaired. Some teeth especially wisdom teeth, need to be removed because they are poorly positioned in the mouth, or have become impacted teeth. Depending on the position of the tooth, having your tooth extracted can cause neighboring teeth to shift position, and lead to a variety of dental problems. Once oral surgery is performed to remove your tooth, Dr. Calabrese will discuss with you the various options available to prevent these problems with a natural looking replacement.
Oral surgery is also performed to correct certain jaw position and bite issues that may be affecting your appearance and interfering with your ability to chew and speak properly.
