Every mouth has good and bad bacteria. When you have periodontal disease, it means that you have millions of harmful bacteria that have multiplied under your gumline and started an infection.
* 3 of 4 adults develop periodontal disease
* Some people have a higher risk due to family history, smoking and diabetes
* Periodontal disease is the #1 cause of tooth loss
* Studies have shown that periodontal disease is directly linked to heart disease
Treatment of Periodontal Disease requires good home care which includes brushing your teeth frequently, flossing and more frequent professional cleanings.
Even with an active periodontal infection you may not have any visible signs at first, but if left untreated the disease continues, dissolving the gum and bone support of your teeth.
